At Galway Family Doctors, our biggest priority is the wellbeing of our patients and we strive for the highest possible standards in achieving that goal.  We consider it a privilege to care for our patients and their families and we are proud to serve our local community in Galway City.

 

We work together as a team to offer a caring, personal and high quality service of Primary Health Care to all of our patients- older and younger, private and GMS (medical card), Galway residents and visitors to the area.

DR. NIAMH O'BRIEN

 

General Practitioner & Co-founder of Galway Family Practice

Dr. O’Brien qualified with honours in Medicine from NUI Galway in 2002.  After her internship year at University Hospital Galway (UHG), she completed the Western Training Programme in General Practice, gaining experience in hospital specialities at UHG, Merlin Park Hospital Galway and Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe. Dr. O’Brien worked as a GP registrar at Turloughmore Health Centre, Clonbur Health Centre and Salthill Medical Centre.  

 

After completion of her postgraduate training, Dr O'Brien worked full-time as a GP at Roscam Medical Practice in Galway city and subsequently at Clifden Medical Practice.  She held a research position in General Practice at NUI Galway from 2009 to 2010 before joining Renmore Park Medical Practice in 2011 to mid-2013.

 

She established Galway Family Doctors at Mervue Health Centre with Dr Elaine Byrne in July 2013 and has seen the practice go from strength to strength ever since.

 

From 2009 to 2015, Dr O’Brien has worked at Galway’s confidential support service for young people, Jigsaw as a GP with a special interest in youth mental health.

  • Breastfeeding Support

  • Mental Health and addiction

  • Chronic disease management

Practice Nurse

Karen qualified with honours in General Nursing in 2006.

 

She worked in UHG for 19years in the phlebotomy department, before joining the practice in Oct 2021.

LEONA KEADY

 

Practice Manager

Leona started her career with Galway Family Doctors in 2017 after many years working in the beauty therapy industry,

 

Leona completed her diploma in medical administration in 2019 and has worked in GP practices in Galway city. Leona has been a great addition to our reception team and provides our patients with the highest level of compassion and professionalism.
