Dr. O’Brien qualified with honours in Medicine from NUI Galway in 2002. After her internship year at University Hospital Galway (UHG), she completed the Western Training Programme in General Practice, gaining experience in hospital specialities at UHG, Merlin Park Hospital Galway and Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe. Dr. O’Brien worked as a GP registrar at Turloughmore Health Centre, Clonbur Health Centre and Salthill Medical Centre.
After completion of her postgraduate training, Dr O'Brien worked full-time as a GP at Roscam Medical Practice in Galway city and subsequently at Clifden Medical Practice. She held a research position in General Practice at NUI Galway from 2009 to 2010 before joining Renmore Park Medical Practice in 2011 to mid-2013.
She established Galway Family Doctors at Mervue Health Centre with Dr Elaine Byrne in July 2013 and has seen the practice go from strength to strength ever since.
Since 2009, Dr O’Brien has worked at Galway’s confidential support service for young people, Jigsaw as a GP with a special interest in youth mental health.

Dr. Vasudha Lakhera
Dr Lakhera qualified in Medicine from NUI Galway in 2002. After her internship in Bath and Gloucester in the UK she worked in Emergency Medicine in Perth, Western Australia for a year. On returning from Perth she completed a Training Scheme in Hospital Medicine in Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.
In 2007 she returned to Galway and completed the Ballinasloe GP Training Scheme and qualified as a GP in 2011.
Since then she has worked as a GP in Ballygar, Lakeshore Medical Centre, Loughrea and several other GP Practices in Galway City including Prospect Hill Medical Centre.

Dr. Aoife Jackson
MB BCh BAO NUI (Hons), PGDip Primary Care, MICGP, DRCOG
Aoife graduated with honours from medical school at NUI Galway in 2006. Having completed internship positions in general practice, elderly care, and surgery, she completed her training on the Western Training Scheme in General Practice in 2013.
During her postgraduate training, Aoife worked in a number of clinical specialties in Galway University Hospitals, Mayo University Hospital and Letterkenny University Hospital, developing sub-specialty interests in ophthalmology and mental health.
Following completion of her GP training she worked for a period of four years in community mental health, as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the Adult Mental Health Services in Galway city. She worked as a GP registrar in Gort Medical Centre, The Medical Centre, Roscommon and Marina House Medical Centre, Ballinasloe.
Aoife joined the team at Galway Family Doctors in February 2019.
Alongside her clinical interests, Aoife has developed an academic role in medical education and training. She has been formally involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education in the school of medicine at NUI Galway in various roles since 2012, and currently holds the post of Lecturer in Primary Care Education within the discipline of general practice. Her key areas of interest in this area are student well-being, communication in healthcare, personal and professional development in practice.

Miriam qualified as a RGN from the Meath Hospital in 1998 and furthered her training by qualifying as a Paediatric nurse, receiving a Higher Diploma in Sick Childrens' Nursing in 2003 from UCD.
Miriam worked in the Emergency Department in Crumlin Hospital before moving to a Practice Nurse position in Dublin. Miriam also worked in the both the National Blood Transfusion Service, Dublin and as a triage nurse in Westdoc, Galway.
She recently joined Galway Family Doctors and continues to enjoy working in a community setting where she can utilise her existing skills while getting to know individual patients and their needs.
Leona started her career with Galway Family Doctors in 2017 after many years working in the beauty therapy industry,
Leona completed her diploma in medical administration in 2019 and has worked in GP practices in Galway city. Leona has been a great addition to our reception team and provides our patients with the highest level of compassion and professionalism.
Marie started in GP practice as an administrator in 2001.
After 9 years in a Galway City practice, Marie broadened her experience with a position as an administrator in the hospital enviroment.
Marie worked as as PA to consultants in General Surgery and Fertility in the Galway Clinic. She also gained administrative experience in the MRI department of the Bon Secours Hospital Galway.
Marie returned to GP practice management in 2013 and joined the Galway Family Doctors Team in 2016..
